Jetting off on holiday always feels special, but sometimes you want a bit of added luxury to your stay. Heading out of East Midlands airport recently for a stay in Zakynthos, we booked into the fantastic Escape Lounge. Here’s what we got up to and why it was worth every penny.

Getting to the Escape Lounge
Head through security and past the duty-free to the Escape Lounge. It is clearly signposted the whole way and lives right opposite the boarding gates. You can view a map of the Escape Lounge location on the East Midlands Airport page.
Inside the Escape Lounge
Once you’ve checked in at the front desk, you’ll be pointed towards your reserved seat. In our case, this was a set of two comfortable sofas.
Inside, you’ll find everything you need to get comfortable before your flight. Well-spaced tables, chairs and screens are paired with low key music and the main features.

What to Expect in the East Midlands Lounge
As we visited the airport lounge early in the morning, a full breakfast was on offer. With bacon, sausage, eggs, beans and more, the traditional English was covered. For those not fancying a fry up, an urn containing porridge, various fruits, cereals and yoghurt were on offer paired with a mix of pastries and muffins.
Fancy a Refreshment?
Visit the corner of the airport lounge at East Midlands and you will find an all-singing, all-dancing drinks machine, with everything from lattes to hot chocolate. Tea-lovers will find a giant wooden tea selection box as well as jars full of decaf tea variants. If juices are more your thing, there is a selection over on the breakfast bar.
Head to the back corner and you’ll find a full-service bar ready and waiting. With everything from pink gins to beers, everything is included in your entry price.
Lounge Tip: If anyone in your group has allergies, be sure to talk to the staff. They are incredibly helpful and we had them bring over our own jug of soya milk with no problem at all.

The Verdict
Whilst there was no set menu or view in the lounge as I have experienced in other airports, it was 100% worth paying extra for. In the East Midlands Escape Lounge, you have your own spot to dump your things and relax without worrying. For the amount of food and drink included, the cost is completely reasonable.
With no queues every time you want a drink, no people barging into your case and no struggle to find a seat, it was heaven. You could even CHARGE YOUR PHONE. Plus, the departure screens and close proximity to the gates means you don’t have to worry about rushing for your flights too! winner.
