Why you Shouldn’t Miss Montenegro’s Stunning Sights

A land of dipping chasms and captivating lakesides, Montenegro really is one of the most visually stunning places i have ever visited. Often overlooked by those visiting it’s neighbouring Croatia for Game of Thrones sights, Montenegro offers a special something away from the crowds and the perfect opportunity to uncover dreamy landscapes not many get to see.

I mean, the pictures speak for themselves really. Think, quaint little island churches with a beguiling history, walls lined with lucky charms and keepsakes from voyaging travellers. Driving through the dips and nuances of the surrounding hills are breathtaking enough but reaching the hidden harbours is something you will never forget. Take a tugger for a boat ride and the serenity of the surrounding waters and landscapes will be etched in to your memory, it was mine.

Tiny fishing villages make way for rolling hills and atmospheric vinyards before you make your way to yet another astounding sight. If you are lucky enough to make the trip, the fantastic city walls of Kotor welcome you into their midst. The Old City is a dream of medieval streets and architecture with walls ascending high into the surrounding hills. If you fancy a challenge as we did, you can take a walk along them. Just be warned though, it is quite a climb.

Filled with intriguing crumbling stone shapes and lots of cats (did I mention there are a TON of cats in Kotor?) the route is challenging but incredibly rewarding. The views you catch when you reach the top offer panoramic vistas right the way over the old city and the mesmerising lake beyond. When you reach the bottom again, looking back at the walls as they wind their way up the hillside into the mist like something from the Lord of the Rings, you wonder how on earth you managed to get all of the way up there.

Lets just say, this photo does not accurately reflect the hot sticky mess I was when I arrived at the top.
