If you’re looking for an early spring trip with a unique twist, an Easter in Vienna is the way to go. The city is just waking up for spring and with the florals just about making their appearance, it is the perfect time to visit. When it comes to Easter celebrations, Vienna goes big with every shop window, café and corner bursting with egg-themed themed decorations and goodies to try. Vienna is also incredibly beautiful this time of year with your chance of sun high and beautiful blossoms out at the numerous parks We loved grabbing our food to go and eating in the many, many green spaces this beautiful European city has to offer.

Vienna Palace Easter Market

Schönbrunn Palace & Easter Market

One of my favourite places to visit in Vienna this time of year is the Schönbrunn Palace. It is a beautiful spot any time of year but during the Easter period, a huge market pops up bursting with beautiful trinkets to buy, delicious food to eat and even some rides, including the big wheel! Schönbrunn Palace is really easy to get to from the city centre on the U4 subway line and is a huge complex with parkland and more to wander around. This palace is especially beautiful in the spring when things are starting to bloom.

Where to Stay in Vienna at Easter

As the capital city of Austria, there are plenty of places to stay in Vienna if you’re flying out for a trip from the UK. We stayed at the Rioca Vienna Posto 2, which was super handy for eateries and public transport to the different parts of the city, it also had a lovely balcony, which was perfect for my morning cuppas in the sun. The mini kitchen was perfect for snacking! There are plenty of chain and independent hotels across the city as well as the usual short-term holiday rentals, so you’re sure to find a good deal even if you are booking last-minute.

What to Eat

There are so many amazing places to eat in Vienna you’re sure to find something for any type of eater. That said you definitely shouldn’t miss trying Käsekrainer (cheese-stuffed sausage) best tried from one of the many sausage stands, Wiener Schnitzel (breaded pork or your choice of meat), and pretty much every pastry you can possibly lay your hands on. I loved pairing the many sweet treats on offer with some super-thick hot chocolate in the plentiful cute cafés that dot every corner.

And Whilst You’re There…

Visit the Austrian National Library! If you are visiting Vienna, Austria at any time of year, this building NEEDS to make it onto your list! This grand space is packed with beautiful statues, bookshelves and a grand aura making it one of my favourite places I visited in Vienna.
