Three Days in Berlin

Travel is the best gift so when I was gifted flights to Berlin for a certain big birthday, I was excited to tick off this new German destination. I’ve visited a few spots in Germany before but never ventured to the capital, known for its grunge music and clubbing scene. Whilst I had high hopes for visiting Berlin in the summer, the city blew me away with its beauty and sheer volume of sights to see and things to do, not to mention the food! Here’s what we got up to in three days in Berlin, Germany with my top recs for what you should see too.

Berlin Notable Mentions: Top Things to See in Berlin, Germany

Before I get started with my three day Berlin itinerary, here are some of my favourite things we saw and did whilst in this German capital.

Grab a Snap in Berlin’s Photobooths

One of my favourite things in Berlin, and one of the most unexpected was the old-fashioned photobooths dotted around the city. We tried out a few of these colourful additions and loved waiting for our pictures to process and pop out.

Try Some Currywurst

Always a favourite when visiting Germany, there are plenty of places to pick up some currywurst on your travels around Berlin, why not grab some to go whilst you wander?

Relax on the Lawn on Museum Island

One of my absolute highlights when visiting Berlin was relaxing on one of the lawns on Museum Island at dusk as music played and people wound down from the day. The atmosphere was just perfect!

Day One in Berlin – Checking Out the Berlin Wall

  • Berlin Wall & Gallery
  • TV tower
  • Green Man attraction
  • Brandenberg Gate
  • Currywurst

Day Two in Berlin – Checkpoint Charlie

  • Checkpoint Charlie
  • Holocaust Memorial
  • German Parliament & the waterfront

Day Three – Holzmarkt and Home

Here comes the surprise part, we were never supposed to stay three full days in Berlin. On our way to the airport on our second day we got a text saying our flight had been cancelled so had to book a last-minute hotel and flight for the next day. Whilst it wasn’t great for a trip that wasn’t supposed to eat into our work week, we were extremely lucky to have an extra day to explore Berlin, here’s how we used it!

  • Holzmarkt
  • Indoor Market
  • Jewish Museum

Top Tips for Visiting Berlin

  • Wear comfy shoes, Berlin is very walkable but is a fair old trek
  • Visit Holzmarkt on weekdays to visit for free
  • Keep your plastic bottles, as with other European countries you can recycle them for cash or store credit
  • Grab yourself a free personalised newspaper article from Checkpoint Charlie
  • Eat as much as you can – there are so many amazing eateries in Berlin, even if you are on a budget!
